What we want to achieve
We aim to put more of our talented and committed clinical and care professionals at the heart of our health and care services. This will allow them to more easily influence our approach whilst bringing their colleagues along with them.
This will require us to look more carefully at the opportunities we give and the training and education required; looking for better representation so that those that lead represent the same diversity as the communities in which they live.
To achieve this, we will focus on creating opportunities for recruitment and promotion to ensure that our communities are served by talented and diverse leaders.
We will then encourage and support them to take charge of the services they deliver and develop them in way that balance the needs of their community, their staff and the available resources. We want to modernise our approaches and strengthen the communications between those who do the work and those who direct it.
We will strive to listen, learn and ensure we keep you healthy at all times, we want to offer our best care for you and your families when they need it.
To do this we will offer an encouraging and supportive environment in which to transform our services so they remain fit for the way we live our lives. We will also strive to join up our services to offer a smoother experience for you.
We will do this by offering our clinical and professional leaders the time and space to prepare and grow into these roles, developing skills that allow them to thrive so that you can too.
Where we are now
We have great clinicians who have worked hard to offer care and provide services in difficult times. However, there are opportunities to modernise, improve services and transform the way in which we work. We have computer systems that are outdated and organisations that need more collaboration. Despite great strides being made in this area, we need to work much more closely with our citizens to understand how they wish to be served and cared for.
We have recently enrolled 45 established and emerging leaders from all corners of our community, including all care disciplines and health and social care organisations, onto an innovative leadership development programme. Delivered in partnership with our Regional NHS Leadership Academy, it encourages them to learn and work together through addressing the problems experienced by our communities and citizens.
They will work together, looking for new ways of dealing with issues. This opportunity to learn together will increase their confidence and improve their awareness of the behaviours that allow them to think and act across their organisations. Through this and other similar activities we hope to build the trust and understanding necessary to empower them to take opportunities and a share vision for a brighter and healthier future.
