
Alliance Clinical Cancer Care Lead for Basildon and Brentwood
Dr Deepak Kumar is a General Medical Practitioner with a deep commitment to clinical education in primary care, spanning both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He serves as a Macmillan GP and Primary Care Cancer Lead for Mid and South Essex, as well as one of the region’s Cancer Stewards. Alongside his role as a practising GP, he is the Undergraduate GP Lead at Anglia Ruskin University’s School of Medicine.
Dr Kumar graduated from Barts and The London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, with a degree in Medicine and an intercalated BSc (Hons) in Medical Education. His early passion for higher education was solidified with this formal qualification, and he received the national first prize from the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) for his dissertation presentation. As the Alliance Cancer Lead for Basildon and Brentwood, he leads multiple workstreams in cancer care across Mid and South Essex, working system-wide as a Cancer Steward.
His research interests include medical education, primary care research, and early cancer diagnosis. Dr Kumar holds an MBBS and a BSc (Hons) in Medical Education from Barts and The London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as the MRCGP from the Royal College of General Practitioners, where he is also a member.
