COVID-19 vaccines are offered to those at increased risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19 – this may be due to a health condition or age. Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation has recommended that the following groups should be able to get a COVID-19 vaccine this spring:
- adults aged 65 years and over
- residents in a care home for older adults
- pregnant women
- individuals aged 6 months to 64 years in a clinical risk group (as defined in tables 3 or 4 in the COVID-19 chapter of the Green Book)
- frontline NHS and social care workers, and those working in care homes for older people
How to get the COVID-19 vaccine
If you’re eligible for an NHS COVID-19 vaccination, you can get your vaccine from:
- Your GP
- Participating pharmacies
- Pop-up vaccination clinics
If you are pregnant, you can get your COVID-19 vaccine from our maternity immunisation teams, who offer vaccines to women and people who are over 16 weeks pregnant in Basildon, Broomfield, and Southend. Our team runs drop-in clinics at the maternity departments of these hospitals. You can get your vaccine on the following days:
- Basildon Hospital: Tuesday and Friday, 9am – 5pm
- Broomfield Hospital: Tuesday and Wednesday, 9am – 5pm
- Southend Hospital: Tuesday and Friday, 9am – 5pm
No appointment is necessary; simply visit the clinic during the hours listed. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact the maternity department directly
We understand that for some people, having a vaccination while pregnant can be worrying. If you have concerns or questions, please visit our drop-in clinics, where our healthcare teams can answer your questions and explain why we recommend these vaccinations.

Complex patients
Patients with a history of anaphylaxis to certain types of drugs that would like to arrange a COVID-19 vaccination can ask their GP to make a referral to the Complex Patient Team. Once referred a clinician will discuss vaccination options with you and assist with your vaccination.
